- Bio: Langford - The funeral for Emma Holland will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2006, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford, with Rev. Gary Westgard officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery of Langford under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton. Mrs. Holland died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Milbank Area Hospital-Avera Health in Milbank, S.D., at the age of 94. Emma Flagtvedt was born Feb. 14, 1912, to Mons and Bertha Helena (Osness) Flagtvedt in Day County, S.D. She grew up and attended school in the rural Langford area. She married Alvin Norman Holland on Sept. 23, 1936, at Langford. She lived in the Langford area all of her life being a housewife, but did work for a few years with the Langford Hotel and the glh Variety Store, Langford. She also spent time as a childcare provider for area families. Alvin died Jan. 26, 1978, and Emma continued to live in Langford, until moving to Park Place in Milbank, S.D., in 2000 and then to Beverly Healthcare (also in Milbank) in 2002. She was a lifelong member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Langford, and for some years was a member of the church circle. More recently, she had been a member of the American Lutheran Church of Milbank. Emma's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed playing bingo at Beverly Healthcare, and was most proud of being selected their Valentine Queen on her last birthday. Emma is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Larson, Groton; four sons, Roger (Geneva) Holland, Milbank, Richard (Corinne) Holland, Aberdeen, Michael (Kay) Holland, Charleston, S.C., John (Kathy) Holland, Milbank; one sister, Myrtle Miller, Switz City, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Cheryle Swenson; two sons, Duane and Gary Holland; four grandchildren; five brothers, Adolph, Henry, Reuben, Clifford and Sigvald Flagtvedt; and five sisters, her twin sister, Esther Holland, Alma Herzog, Jennie House, Mable Flagtvedt and Helma Jerde.
