- Bio: Karen Marie Johnson, 73, left this world peacefully the morning of July 5th, 2022, at her home in Kingston, Washington.
Karen was born in Seattle, WA and grew up in Shoreline. She was 18 and on a train trip to Cashmere with her parents when she met the love of her life, Marvin Johnson. He asked if he could take her out bowling, and wanting to impress, she wildly exaggerated her bowling expertise. Although the bowling part of the date didn't go well, the relationship proved to be a success. They married on her 20th birthday and celebrated their 53rd anniversary in June.
- Karen and Marvin both worked for the Bremerton post office. She was a rural carrier and loved meeting and delivering to the people on her route. She retired after 20 years and enjoyed life on the farm and caring for her family. She was thrilled when she finally became a "Grammy", and her proximity next door allowed her to spend a lot of time with her grandson. She loved to cook and bake and marked every occasion with a delicious meal. Many remember her parties, especially the annual 4th of July gathering, with her musician friends providing great entertainment. Her friendships were very important to her and every day she wrote letters, made phone calls, visited in person, or went on outings with her friends. Living on wooded acreage, she appreciated the visiting wildlife- deer, rabbits, hummingbirds, owls and eagles, and enjoyed spreading treats and kindness among all the dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, and horse that lived on the property over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin and two sons, Jay (Kelly Knight) and Jerame, and her grandson Ryker. All of Kingston, WA.
She is also survived by her brother John Field (Susana) of Nicaragua, and nephew Cliff Field (Chayse) of Durango, Colorado.
