- Longtime local resident, Andrew Carl Farland passed away Jan. 28, 2008, at the Hospice Care Center. He was 92 years old.
- He was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Wilmer, Minn., to Andrew L. and Katherine (Jacobson) Farland. He attended R.A. Long High School.
- He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933 at the age of 17. He served his country during World War II when he enlisted in the Navy. On Jan. 29, 1939, he married Velma Duerre. She preceded him in 2006.
- He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Kathy Farland of Longview; two granddaughters, Teresa Lane and her husband, Rob of Puyallup and Joanna Horch and her husband, Buzz of Gaithersburg, Md; a grandson, Adam Farland and his wife, Erica of Castle Rock; seven great-grandchildren, Kate, Cole and Jack Lane, Nathan, Hannah and Hailey Horch and Samantha Farland; and many nieces and nephews.
- He was preceded in death by nine siblings.
