    • Båda är utexaminerade från St Olaf College, Joann i hem-och konsumentkunskap 1949. De bodde i Willmar och senare i Spicer, Minnesota, USA.
    • Bio:
Joann Handahl, 82, of Spicer, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
    • She was born on June 27, 1927, in Willmar, MN, the daughter of William and Emma (Erickson) Estrem. She grew up in Murdock, graduating from Murdock High School in 1945. She continued her education at St. Olaf College, receiving her BA Degree in Home Economics in 1949. She taught one year at Bird Island High School and also taught a charm course in the Business Department at the Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute.
    • On June 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald Handahl at Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock. They lived in Willmar following their marriage. Joann and Don were blessed with two sons and were wishing they could have a girl, too. In 1955, Joann crashed Don’s office and said, not only are we having another, but twins. And God blessed them with two daughters. They were planning their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
    • Joann loved to cook and entertain guests. After moving to Rice Estates, she was elected social director for events at the community clubhouse. She could organize a conversation group at the drop of a hat, and served many years as the coordinator for meal following funerals at Vinje Lutheran Church. She was able to put her organizing and entertaining hat on as she served as President of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association Gal Gobblers, and saw to it that everyone wore turkey sweatshirts and were promoting turkey products.
    • She enjoyed playing bridge, her sewing club, and church circles in Minnesota and Arizona. While living on Green Lake, Joann enjoyed watching all the boats and always made sure the birdfeeders were full.
    • She is survived by her husband, Don of Spicer; son, Ross (Marcia) Handahl of St. Cloud; daughters, Heidi (Charles) Anderson of Nashville, TN, and Holly (Scott) Ricker of Batavia, IL; daughter-in-law, Sheila Handahl of Onalaska, WI; ten grandchildren, Nicholas and Christian Handahl, Sarah (Lucas) Ahlberg, Stephanie (Jarod) Summers, Stacie Handahl, Carl, Eric and Nels Anderson, Ryan and Anna Ricker; and twin great-grandsons, Lincoln and Evan Ahlberg.
    • She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark in 2008; brothers, Donald and Robert Estrem.
    • Her Celebration of Life will be 11:00 am, Friday, May 21, 2010, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
