- Bio: Galen Drown, 66 years old, passed away suddenly on Tuesday April 24, 2012. The second son of Everett and Dorothy Drown, Galen was born in Boise on 1/05/1946, graduating from Borah High School and attending Boise Junior College, known today as BSU. Southern Idaho provided the perfect landscape for all the recreational activities Galen loved, including fishing, boating and infinite rounds of golf. An avid bird hunter, he spent countless frigid days of the fall and winter months sporting with friends, new and old. One constant on his hunting excursions was his bird dog. He had many over the years, and each were beloved, cherished companions. As a former linebacker for the Borah Lions' football team, he took pride in his State championship titles. This early football success established a lifelong passion for the sport and a committed fan of college and professional football. Most cherished by him were his Boise State Broncos. A long time booster and season ticket holder, Galen was an authentic fan through the many seasons and coaching changes. He relished in the recent success and national exposure of his beloved team. Galen dedicated his career to the Boise Police Department. He served in various divisions and special teams of operations, ending in crime scene investigations, and retiring in 1998 after 27 years of proud service Taking supreme advantage of Idaho's unique recreational opportunities left little time for settling down in the early years of his adult life. That all changed when he married his wife Vicki in 1988. The many years of hunting, sport and police work could never prepare him for the ultimate challenges presented by raising 2 young teenagers, but Galen was determined to conquer this challenge and settle down with a family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Drown. He is survived by his wife Vicki; a daughter and son-in-law, Josie and Matt Owen; a son, Dustin West; and four grandchildren. A viewing for family and friends will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, April 29th at Summers Ustick Chapel. A graveside memorial is planned for Monday, April 30th at 11:00am at Dry Creek Cemetery.
