- Bio: John Olaf Drivdahl, of Waco, believing in the Lord and Jesus Christ His son, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the age of 89. Visitation will be Friday, April 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m., at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum with burial to follow.John was born in Mineola, NY to Tharald and Malene Drivdahl. He married Judy Taylor on February 24, 1973. Following graduation from Fairhaven High School (Mass.), he enlisted in the Army and served with the 11th Airborne Division. After an honorable discharge, he attended Bryant University and obtained a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He then went on to do graduate work at the University of Miami in Florida. In 1955 John relocated to California and was employed by North American Aviation, later known as Rockwell International. As an Industrial Engineer, John received three patents for his work with micro-circuitry equipment. After 30 years he retired and moved back to Texas, where his wife was born. Always ambitious, John took on numerous volunteer positions in the Waco area. John assisted with AARP Tax-Aide and supervised several AARP Driver Safety instructors. He is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Waco Seniors, and a past Lt Governor of Kiwanis Division 23. John also helped charter the local Canuteson-Reierson Lodge 1-660, of the Sons of Norway, serving as their second president. He later became director of Zone 8, and assisted in chartering the Scandinavian Friends Club of Waco as well as serving two terms as a Texas Silver-haired Legislator.John was preceded in death by his parents; and his in-laws, Lavonia and Frank Taylor. Also, he had numerous relatives in Norway who are now deceased.Survivors include his wife Judy of 44 years; son, William Drivdahl and wife Tina; grandson, Michael and his wife Kendra; granddaughter, Shaunna and her husband Eli Ryder; great-grandsons, Parker and Logan Drivdahl; and granddaughter, Jordan Ryder.Please make memorial contributions to the charity you find most worthy.Obituary published online 12 Apr 2017 by Waco Tribune Herald, Waco, Texas.++++++Father, Therald Drivdahl, born in Norway, 28 Dec 1896 -13 Sep 1984 is buried in Karmøy, Rogaland, Norway.
