- A statewide search has been launched for the gunman or gunmen who shot and killed a store owner and his wife during an apparent holdup at the store.
- Dale D. Davis, 52, owner of Davis Sporting Goods, and his wife, Doris, 50, were shot to death Friday night police said. Their bodies were discovered by passerbys at about 9 pm.
- Morgan County authorities said Saturday it was not known whether more than one person took part in the holdup, in which an undetermined amount of money was taken from the cash register.
- But investigators said they believed one gunman was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with Davis. There was a trail of blood leading out the door through which the bandit fled.
- Davis and his wife lived behind the store located one mile west of Barnett, a west central Missouri community of less than 200 persons.
