- Bio: Violet Irene (Bustad) Huckabay, age 82, of Rockville, Md., formerly of Austin, died on Sept. 6, 2007, in Maryland. She was born June 2, 1925, in Austin, the daughter of Ingvold and Augusta (Hanson) Bustad. She grew up in the Lutheran faith while attending St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She also attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1944. Following graduation, Violet moved to Chicago, Ill., where she worked as a telephone operator for a couple of years. During World War II, Violet took a train with the troops to California. While living in Los Angeles, Calif., Violet met and married Rodney Oakley Huckabay, a chiropractor, on Dec. 25, 1947 in Stockton, Calif. The couple made their home in Los Angeles, where Violet attended college earning her bachelor's degree in education. She then worked as a first grade teacher in the Los Angeles area. The couple later moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where they owned and operated a health food store for many years. In the early 1990s, Violet moved back to Austin. Rodney died in January 2000. In June 2005, Violet moved to Annandale, Va. to be near her daughters. In November 2006, she entered the National Lutheran Home in Rockville. Violet always held a special place in her heart for her Savior and spent many hours reading and studying the Bible.Survivors include three children: Norwin (Sheri) Huckabay, of Tehachapi, Calif., Nori (Bob) Hummel, of Great Falls, Va. and Rodene "Crystal" Cowan, of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Evelyn (Dwain) Beckel, of Baudette, Minn., Arnold Bustad, of Cross Lake, Minn., Marion Baxter, of River Falls, Wis., Edward (Pat) Bustad, of Austin, Wallace "Wally" (Marlys) Bustad, of Austin and Deanna (Keith) Schewe of Glenville, Minn.; also many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodney Huckabay in January 2000 and a brother, Kenneth Bustad.Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. James Grothe officiating. Friends may greet the family at a visitation from 1-2 p.m., and at a reception following the graveside service on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin.
