- Bio: SAVANNA – Keith Allen Zigler, 81, passed away February 1, 2020 in Tucson, AZ, surrounded by family.
Keith was born on October 15, 1938, in Savanna, IL, the son of Lawrence J. and Eines H. (Warnecke) Zigler.
After High School graduation, he joined the Air Force and served 4 years in SD before meeting his wife, Rachel and enrolling in Nursing School. After receiving his RN Degree, Keith then joined the U.S. Army and completed a tour in Vietnam. Upon his return to the States, he joined the Reserves and enrolled in Anesthesia School. Keith was a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and served at four different Army Bases, as well as Champaign, Galena and Savannah, IL hospitals before settling to Dixon in 1977 to work at Katherine Shaw Bethea (KSB) Hospital. Keith and Rachel had three beautiful children before divorcing in 1982. Keith rose to the rank of Lietenant Colonel before retiring from the Reserves on Oct. 15, 1998. He then retired from KSB Hospital in 2001 and eventually moved to Benson, AZ, full time. He loved everything about that part of our country. He also loved attending the Univ. of Arizona Women’s Softball games, the Tucson Symphony and riding his four-wheeler in the desert along with his new “retired” friends. He also loved spending time with his family, going to his grandchildren’s activities and watching college basketball.
Keith is survived by his three children, Nancy (Brian) Vangunten, John (Kathy) Zigler and Jennifer (Nathan) Ross; eleven grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Daniel Vangunten, Zeberiah, Zoe, Joy and Hiram Zigler, Brittney, Hailey, Shelbey and Kinsley Ross; five nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard, John Edward and James Zigler and his long-time friend from the Army, Keith Johnson.
A celebration of life will be set for a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
