- Robert Stanley Benson was born on February 16, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Edward O. and Bertha Boyle Benson. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown, graduating from the Marshalltown High School with the class of 1948. Prior to graduation from high school he began working at Fisher Controls, and it was there that he met Marilyn Huston, who would later become his wife.
- He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and served from November 3, 1950 until August 20, 1954. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Liscomb and was united in marriage to Marilyn Angelee Huston on January 4, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They both continued to work at Fisher Controls where he operated a lathe in the stem control department, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Bethel Grove Church, the Liscomb American Legion, Harry C. Harter Post #839 of the V.F.W. and U.A.W.
Robert is survived by his wife: Marilyn Benson of Liscomb; daughter, two sons, three brothers, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
- He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Irma Dighton and Nola Benson, and a brother Carroll Benson.
