- Charles was born on Sept. 11, 1926, in Kalispell, Mont., the son of Frank A. and Myrtle V. Yerkes. He attended schools in Kalispell. In December 1944 he entered the service and received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Marine Corps in San Diego. From 1954 to 1982 he worked for Plum Creek Timber Co. in Columbia Falls. Upon returning from there he went to work for Berg Lumber in Lewistown, and worked there for eight years. He then worked for Gebhardt Lumber in Roundup, for two years. He then returned to the Flathead Valley and built his home near Lakeside while continuing to work for Cafe al Dente in Whitefish. On March 11, 1950, he married Margaret Foster. They later divorced. On March 23, 1983, he married Joanne May in Lewistown. He was preceded in death by his father, a half brother Claude Yerkes and one grandson, Jason Ford. Charles passed away on June 12, 1998 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, Kalispell, Montana.
