    • Bio: With deep regret we report that our hero, Barrett Williams, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep on March 28, 2012.
    • Barrett was born on Oct 8, 1942 in Kansas City, Mo to Margaret Kallevig and Donald Williams. At age 2 he moved to Tulsa where he spent the next 14 years. He wrestled at the championship level at Will Rogers High School in Tulsa.
    • At the age of 16, Barrett left Tulsa to hitchhike around the country before rejoining his mother in San Francisco, CA. Barrett graduated from Balboa High School in 1960 and then went to work running his own parking lots in San Francisco. He also was in the top 5 of California motorcycle road racing, and survived 5 spills at over 100mph. He left his parking lot business to attend college and graduated from San Francisco State College with a degree in English Literature.
    • Upon graduating he lived in Manhattan, NY for a year, working for General Electric. With the Vietnam war raging and coming from a long line of military family, Barrett enlisted in the Army and went to OCS and Green Beret Training.
    • He proudly served his country as a 1LT Officer and was a MAT team commander in Vietnam from 1969-70 and earned his CIB. After his honorable discharge he moved to Seattle for a year to work for the Mennen Company.
    • There he met the love of his life; Vicki. He moved to Alaska in Feb, 1974 and lived here until his death. Barrett was a truly gifted salesman and held many different sales positions in Alaska, working for Asplund Supply Co., Worthington Ford, GTE directories, and many other car dealerships, receiving numerous rewards. He also worked as a bartender at the Pierce Street Annex, and 13 Coins.
    • Barrett was father to Denise, Carter and David. He was a wonderful dad and grandfather, spending many hours RVing, camping, telling stories, and riding his Harley's with his children. His most memorable trip was riding his Harley through Canada with his son, Carter. On that trip he hit a mule deer with his Harley and was lucky to survive.
    • He looked forward to Monday nights when son David would come over for shrimp, beer and conversations. Daughter, Denise will always remember the birthday dinner dates with Dad, every year from the age of 8. He also loved to read and play with his grandchildren. He lived a huge life and had no regrets. He was all about family, but he also looked forward to his Friday nights out with the guys at Reilly's. Barrett loved to be the center of attention. He was the center of the family and everything revolved around him. He loved cooking, especially making soups. He loved family get togethers.
    • An avid reader and armchair traveler, he was always looking forward to his next adventure. Everything he did, even the smallest of things, was an adventure.
    • He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, wonderful conversations, powerful handshake, and sayings "Not bad for an aging fat guy", "Goin to Kansas City for a pack of cigarettes" "older than dirt", and "everything's Jake in Salt Lake". He lived by the words of the song "I did it my way".
    • Barrett was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David.
    • He is survived by his loving wife of almost 38 years, Vicki; daughter, Denise (Nathan) Buck; sons, Carter (Melinda) Williams, and David (Jessica) Williams; and grandchildren, Heyden, Holley and Havana Buck, and Ethan Williams, all of Anchorage. He also leaves many dear friends.
    • At his request, no services will be held, but a celebration of life will be held at Reilly's on Friday 4/13/12 from 6pm til ? All are invited to please bring a favorite memory of Barrett for the memory box. His ashes will be placed at Fort Rich Memorial Cemetery with full military honors at a later time. Honey, Daddy, Grandpa, we miss you and will love and cherish you forever. We know how much you loved us. May you rest in peace knowing you were fully loved.
