- Robert Whitaker, 72, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in West Des Moines, surrounded by his family and now he is in the arms of the Lord.
- Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at McLaren's Chapel with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.
- Robert was born January 17, 1945 in Charleston, SC to Paul and Vernice (Winterton) Whitaker. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended NIACC in Mason City.
- Robert was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War.
- He was a car dealer, professional painter and attended Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
- Robert enjoyed sports, autos, animals and was an avid NHRA fan. He dearly loved his family; there was not a person that he would not want to speak with.
- Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie Whitaker of Grimes; sons, Chad and Ryan Whitaker both of West Des Moines; and half-sister, Marvyl Lambert of Mitchell, IA.
- Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
