- Jack passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Jack was born, raised and educated in Calgary. The majority of his working life was spent in accounting for several businesses in Calgary. Over the years, Jack has been associated with Active 20-30 Club of Calgary and the Quarter Century Aviation Club. He was one of the original members of #52 (City of Calgary) Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets in 1941. These activities continued for twenty-four and a half years, four years as a cadet and twenty years as an officer (1951 to 1971) retiring as Lieutenant Colonel, Wing Commander of #15 (Calgary) Wing, R.C.A.C. and Cadet Co-ordinator (Air). Jack was a life member of the Air Force Association of Canada with #783 (Calgary) Wing and Treasurer of Alberta Group for several years. In 1964 he won the International Public Speaking Award for the Active 20-30 Club of Calgary. Jack married the love of his life, Irene Dyrland in May, 1959. They spent many great years camping in various units and using their timeshare facilities to visit Europe, U.S.A., Mexico and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Evelyn Bennett in 1976 and Wally Bennett in 1991. In living memory of Jack Bennett, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
