Clinton-Gerhard A. “Gary” West, 86, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Clinton Hospital following a brief illness. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Kevin West & Betsy; and David West & Patti, all of Clinton; his grandchildren, Stacy Veo & husband Justin; Shane, Derek, Brittany, and Brian West. He leaves his former wife Dorothy (Martin) West of Clinton; and his siblings, Lillian, Severen, Genevieve and Orville, all of South Dakota, and Valle of Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews. Gerhard was born in Langford, South Dakota to the late Olaf & Gerta (Hemness) West. He graduated from the Langford High School Class of 1947 and enlisted to proudly serve our nation in the US Army during the Korean War. He settled in Clinton and began his career with Ray-O-Vac before working for the Colonial Press and ultimately retiring from ITT Surpenant. Gary attended all of the sporting events of his grandchildren and was also a dedicated fan of Boston sports teams. Throughout his lifetime he was an accomplished bowler and an avid reader. A Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster. A Calling Hour will be held in the funeral home prior to services on Saturday morning from 9 until 10AM.
