- Bio: James "Jim" Lowell Walker, 86, of Faribault, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna..
- He was born July 29, 1931 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Orven and Leda (Richardson) Walker. He grew up on the family farm near Kenyon, attending country school near Moland and graduating from Kenyon High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic from May 23, 1953 until his honorable discharge on July 23, 1954. He then completed eight years in the Army Reserve. On August 25, 1956, Jim married Doris Fretham at North Waseca Lutheran Church. Jim's work career included farming, Walker Electronics in Kenyon which he owned and claimed as his favorite job, Master Electrician, Crown Cork and Seal in Faribault, 3M Dynacolor in Northfield, and Truth Hardware in Owatonna retiring in 1996. Jim was a lifelong learner, writer and inventor. He wrote a book about his life and adventures and family stories. Outdoor activities he enjoyed included sailplane gliding, downhill skiing and sailing. He enjoyed reading and his hobbies included wood carving, painting, playing the piano, organ, and trombone. Jim's faith was the foundation of his life. He served in his church as a Sunday School teacher and on the church council. He continued his service by volunteering at various mission organizations for 16 years during the winter months and relief efforts for Katrina and Red River flooding. He was active in Gideons International for many years and enjoyed handing out bibles at the Rice County fair and in McAllen, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He instilled his faith and values in the lives of his family, friends and those he came in contact with.
- Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Walker of Faribault; children, Wayne (Julie) Walker of Kenyon, Jerry (Susan) Walker of Minnetonka, Diann (Roy) Waddell of Ypsilanti, MI, John Walker (and significant other Anne Scott) of St. Paul and Richard (Hannah) Walker of Saline, MI; granddaughters, Emily (Brent) Raan, Jessica Walker, Lauren (Jeffrey) Bloem, Stephanie (Scott) Earnshaw and Karli Waddell; grandsons, Michael Walker, Timothy Walker, Andrew Walker, Joey Walker and Matthew Waddell; great-grandchildren, Caleb Sanchez, Isabella Earnshaw, Isaac Earnshaw, Amaleah Raan and Sarala Raan. He was preceded in death by parents, Orven and Leda Walker, and sister LaDonna Brotzel.
- Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, and at Hauge Lutheran on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Hauge Lutheran Church in Kenyon with The Reverend Gideon Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon with military honors by the Kenyon Color Guard.
