- Bio: Don, 92 of Clare, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Gladwin. Gene was the son of the late Donald Seaman and Alverda R. (Anderson) Bastian.
- Gene served with the Marines in WWII; he was present during the raising of the American Flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
- Gene had worked as Truck Driver for the USPS for 25 years; retiring at the age of 72. He had moved to Clare from Phoenix, Arizona 5 years ago.
- Over the years, Gene had broken and ridden many horses, and while living in Arizona he was constantly riding his bicycle. Gene became a Master Mason in 1951.
- Gene is survived by his daughters, Lisa Pond of Clare and Louise (Steve) Bryant of Farwell; 4 grandchildren Joshua (Sarah) Bryant, Season Bryant, Brieann (Matt) Richardson and Rosalyn (Tom) Kindell; 9 great grandchildren Westyn, Rainn, Braelyn, Bodyn, Preston, Brady, Zoey, Vivian and Jacob.
- Gene was predeceased by his brothers Robert, Bruce and Skip.
- Cremation has taken place with memorials suggested to the Clare Rails to Trails.
- Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
