    • MARTYN, Sarah (Barnett) "Sally" (Age 85) Sally passed away peacefully on May 18, 2010 in Spokane surrounded by her family. She was born on August 17, 1924 in Spokane to Dr. Edwin J. Barnett and Agnes V. O'Neil. Sally and her brother Bob grew up in a doctor's family, and she enjoyed many outings with her dad traveling to small farming communities around Spokane where he provided much needed health care. She attended Holy Names Academy, graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, and studied East Asian art at the University of Washington. In 1947 she married John P. Fix Jr. and enjoyed years raising children, volunteering at Spokane Mental Health, and being significantly involved with the Junior League of Spokane and the family business, Dodson's Jewelers. In 1972, Sally married Dr. Wilford E. Martyn and they had twenty-nine wonderful years together until his death in 2001. They first lived in Indian Wells, California where Sally's biggest joy was golf and she excelled to the point of winning a number of club tournaments. In 1982, they moved back to Spokane to be near family and friends. Sally had lots of interests in her life. She was an avid reader, engaged in current events, loved to needlepoint, and played lots and lots of bridge. Her last years were inhibited somewhat by dementia but she always carried herself with much grace and dignity along with an infectious smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Sally was preceded in death by her husband Wiff, parents Edwin and Agnes, and brother and sister-in-law Bob and Suzanne Barnett. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Penn Fix and Debra Schultz, Barney Fix and Marsha Rooney, Sara Fix, and Monica Fix; grandchildren Louise and Pierce, Jedediah and Kirsten; first husband Jack Fix and wife Becky; stepson Marc Martyn, wife Chiere and family; nieceLarkin Barnett; and nephews Rob and Bryan Barnett. The family extends very special thanks to Sally's caregivers over the last nine years: Bev Cates, Providence Emily Court Assisted Living, and April and Dan Hummel and their staff at Pleasant Haven AFH. Each extended immeasurable kindness, warmth, and joy to our mother. A private family burial was held at Holy Cross Cemetery on May 21. A public remembrance and reception will be held on Friday, June 4 at 4pm at the Providence Center for Faith andHealing on the Sacred Heart Medical Center campus.
