- Bio: Herbert Rudolph Bard was born September 24, 1901 in Pilot Mound, Ia. to Charlie and Anna Bard. He was baptized into the triune faith on Oct. 11, 1901 at Boxholm, Ia. He renewed his baptismal covenant through the rite of confirmation on April 17, 1924 at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. He passed away at Mason City, Ia. on Monday, March 1, 1976, after reaching the age of 74 years, five months, and six days. Herb received his education in Pilot Mound. On September 14, 1922 he was united in marriage to Selle Mathilda (Tillie) Knutson of Eagle Grove at Boone, Ia., and they settled in Eagle Grove. He was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a conductor brakeman from 1924 to 1964, when he retired because of disability. Herb became a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 20, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Merle, in August 1965; son, Donald and daughter, Maxine in infancy; and sister, Elsie Hoffman. He leaves to mourn his wife; three sons, Harold of Eagle Grove; Richard and Stanley of Lincoln, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Short, Cedar Falls.Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. H. W. Schiller officiating.
