- MISS ESTHER HOVICK
- Funeral services were held for Miss Esther Hovick last Monday, at the Hovick home, and at Madison Lutheran church. She died the previous Thursday evening, Feb. 8th, after an illness of a little more than two weeks. At the church "Abide With Me" was sung by Mrs. N. Westby, and "Tank naar engang" by Rev. Tetlie; Mrs. Tetlie was the organist. The following served as pall bearers: the brothers, Andrew, Charles and Tom Hovick, M. H. Bru, Curtis Loe and Manfred Jensen. Interment was made at the church cemetery.
- Esther Hovick was born at Skjold, near Haugesund, Norway, September 8, 1866, her parents being Torbjorn and Inger Hovick. She was the second of seven children. She was baptized and confirmed at Skjold parish church.
- In 1889 she came to the United States with her mother and a sister and brother, one sister and three brothers having previously come to this country. The father had died some years before.
- They settled first at Sioux Rapids, Iowa and lived there till 1903, when all but one sister moved to Lac qui Parle county, and settled on the farm two miles northeast of Madison, which has since been the Hovick home. The mother died in 1924, and a brother, Nels Hovick, in 1942.
- Miss Hovick, together with the other members of the family, joined Madison Lutheran Church immediately after moving here. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid.
- She is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Hilda Urdahl of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Charles Hovick of Northfield, this state, and Andrew, Tom and Ida of Madison, Minnesota.
