    • Bio: Urban Henry Badenhop 1919 - 1999IDA GROVE, Iowa — Urban Henry Badenhop, 79, of Ida Grove died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at his home.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, with the Revs. John Schauer and Michael Saylor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa, with military honors by McNamara-Moore Post 61 of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.Mr. Badenhop was born on Aug. 31, 1919, on a farm in Hamler, Ohio, the son of Fred and Emilie (Prigge) Badenhop. He attended a one-room country school through eighth grade, then went on to high school, graduating in 1937. He attended Tri-State University in Toledo, Ohio, a business school, then took a job driving a tank wagon for an independent oil company.He served in the Ohio National Guard during high school and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served until 1946.He married Evelyn Smith on Dec. 23, 1944, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.Following his tour of duty, he returned to Ohio, where he entered into the service station business. Following the sale of the business in 1955, he began employment as sales manager for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove, retiring in 1984. He continued working with Midwest as a consultant and helping with farm equipment shows on a part-time basis until May of 1996.He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served in numerous capacities over the years, including over 65 consecutive years singing in the church choir. He was also a member of the Happiness Express Chorus, a chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. In addition, he was also a member of Kiwanis, former Director of FEMA (Farm Equipment Manufacturing Association), the Ida County American Heart Association Board, chairman and volunteer for the Care Review Committee and a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barb and John Corr of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Alex and Adam Coor; a brother and his wife, Don and Juanita of Hamler, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Lou Badenhop of Hamler, Ohio, and Dorothy Hutchins and her husband the Rev. Richmond Hutchins of Ovid, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn on Nov. 18, 1996; and two brothers, Pete and Bob Badenhop.
