    • Services for Don C. Taylor, age 97, were held Monday, December 6, in the Bader Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk cemetery. Mr. Taylor died Friday, December 3, 1993, at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyo.
    • He was born February 25, 1896, in Virgil, S.D., the son of William B. and Lydia Bader Taylor, the fifth son of nine children. Mr. Taylor came to Lusk in 1919 after his discharge from the U. S. Army. He met and married Ethel J. Thompson, the daughter of a Wyoming pioneer family.
    • Mr. Taylor worked for the Niobrara County Road and Bridge and was later involved in the oil and grocery business in Lusk. In 1942, Mr. Taylor accepted a contract with the U.S. Post Office Department to carry mail on the Lusk-Jay Em route. He continued to carry the mail for 51 years and at the time of his death, was the oldest active mail carrier in the United States.
    • Mr. Taylor was a charter member of the first American Legion Post in the United States which met in Van Tassell, Wyo. He was a 70-year member of Harmony Lodge #24 AF & AM in Lusk and the Wyoming Consistory.
    • He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethel J. Taylor, and one son, Donald L. Taylor.
    • Survivors include two sons, William A. Taylor of Cheyenne, Wyo. and James M. Taylor of Sheridan, Wyo.; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin L. Taylor of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Loretta Schipporeit of Hubbard, Ore. and many nieces and nephews along with innumerable friends.
    • For those who wish, memorials may be sent to the Lusk Senior Center, in care of Connie Baker. They will be appreciated by the family.
