- Bio: George E. BakerFuneral services were held Monday at Swedish Covenant Church at Pender for George E. Baker, 77, who died Friday at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident just east of Pender about a month ago.The Rev. Ron Rice officiated at the services, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Paul John Fredericksen, Mike Cooney, Harold Pearson, Orville Pearson, Emmett Witt and Roy Hofeldt.Baker was born Feb. 14, 1901 in Pender. He married Zelma Barnes on Feb. 23, 1926 at Elk Point. S.D., and he farmed in the Pender area most of his life.Survivors include his widow; two sons, Alvin and Marvin, both of Pender; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Mary Baker of Pender, and a sister, Hazel Olson of Bancroft.Published in The Pender Times Jun. 30, 1978
