- Boyd Brook Bahnson was born April 17, 1926 to Charles and Olive (Moen) Bahnson in Inwood, IA. He grew up in Sioux Falls, SD where he attended Washington High School and Augustana College. He served as a signalman in the Navy during World War II. He met his wife, Betty Smith, playing tennis at McKennan Park. They were married in 1952.
- For nearly 30 years, Boyd owned and operated Sioux Falls Transfer. He retired at age 55 but remained active with principal interests in farming and surfing the stock market. Boyd was active at First United Methodist Church where for several years he served on the building and finance committees. He was a Mason and member of the El Riad Shrine. He was frequently a chagrinned supporter of the Twins, the Minnesota (and Augustana) Vikings, and Augie mens and womens basketball. Boyd took time to travel extensively with his wife. He loved annual fishing trips to Canada with her and his sons. He also provided summer and winter retreats for them at Lake Poinsett and the Black Hills. Among his family and friends, he was a colorful and controversial character.
- He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on April, 26, 2010.
