- Bio: MISSION HILL — Aileene M. Fiedler, 83, Mission Hill, died Sunday (Oct. 5, 2003) at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill, with the Rev. Erika Lehmann officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home, Yankton, is in charge of the arrangements. She was born Sept. 17, 1920, at Mission Hill to Martin and Erma (Gustad) Sylliaasen. She grew up and attended rural school at Mission Hill. She attended high school at Mission Hill through the 11th grade and graduated from the Yankton High School. She then attended college at Southern State Normal School and Mount Marty College. On June 20, 1942, she married Merlin C. Fiedler at Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill. They farmed west of Mission Hill for 20 years before moving into Mission Hill. She taught country school for 20 years at Inch, Bruget and McFarland schools. She then worked at JC Penney for 10 years from 1973-83. She was a lifetime member of Vangen Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of the choir for several years. She also held various offices of WELCA. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She is survived by her sons: Terry (Nicole) Fiedler, Mission Hill; and Rex (Kay) Fiedler, Topeka, Kan.; one daughter, Erna (Barry) Huitema, Yokota Air Force Base, Japan; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and three brothers. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Oct. 8, 200
