Smith 85 of Mapleton Iowa died on Wednesday, March 11, 1987 in a hospital in Ida Grove Iowa.services were at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 14 1987, in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa.Pastor Les Kimball officiated Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 1987, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.Mr. Smith was born on July17, 1901, to Burt and Ida(Baker) Smith in Pender, Nebraska. He Married Elfreda Scheer on May 5, 1920, at Denison, Iowa. The couple lived a short timein Nebraska. They moved to Mapleton, where he worked for Suiter Hatchery for many years. He lived in South Dakotawhere he worked for the Fairmont poultry Company. In 1955,he began working for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove Iowa,and worked there until his retirement. Mrs. Smith died inJanuary of 1986, and he moved to a nursing home in Ida GroveIowa, shortly after that time.Mr. Smith was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Churchand the Senior Citizens Group in Mapleton Iowa.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and twobrothers.Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richmond (Dorothy)Hutchins of Ovid New York and Mrs. Urban(Evelyn) Badenhop of Ida grove, Iowa: four grandchildren and fivegreat-grandchilderen.Pallbearers were Ray Else, Byron Godberson, Fred Schenfeld, Delmond Scheer, Robert Rohde, and John Yockey.Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, John Coor and Mark Hutchins.Published on March 19, 1987 in the Mapleton Press .
