- Robert Gene Steele, 71, of Kimball, died Sept. 2, 1999 at Delta, Colo. Memorial Services were at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7, at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker officiating.
- He was born April 28, 1928 in Banner County, Neb. to William and Blanche (Fitz) Steele. He lived in Banner and Kimball counties all of his life. He served in the armed services in Korea during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a rancher and farmer. On Oct. 2, 1953, he married JoAnn Christensen.
- He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball and had served on the church board. He belonged to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, had been a 4-H leader, served on the Dix Rural Fire Board and the Kimball-Banner County Rodeo Committee.
- He is survived by his wife, four sons, Dick and Barbara Steele of Delta, Colo., Dan and Janet Steele and their children of Albany, Ore., David and Susan Steele and their children of Irving, Tex., and Daryl and Kerry Steele and their children of Kimball; three brothers, Maurice Steele of Kimball, Harold Steele of Potter, Neb. and Billy D. Steele of Sidney, Neb.; and one sister, Irene Wallin of Kimball.
- He was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard, and one nephew, Ed Steele.
- Memorial contributions may be made to the First English Lutheran Church, 501 S. Webster, Kimball.
- Arrangements were made by Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colo.
