- Bertha Solem Tvedt, 100, formerly of Larimore, ND passed away October 9, 2012 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center.
- She was born August 9, 1912, in Hickory Township in Pennington County, MN to Bergit Hegland Solem and Martin O. Solem. She lived her first 3 years in Hickory Township, and then the family moved to Vassar, Manitoba to homestead land. In 1917, her family moved back to Minnesota and lived near Oklee, Hadley, and Thief River Falls. She attended High School in Thief River Falls, and went to teachers college in Bemidji, MN. She received her teaching certificate in 1931, and taught country school for 2 years at Rose Nook in Minnesota.
- In 1934, Bertha married Racine Tvedt in Larimore, ND. To this union 2 children were born; Jennifer Rae and David Martin. Bertha and Racine started farming in 1938 and continued in that endeavor until 1977 when they retired. They served their country during World War II by moving to Bremerton, Washington to work at the shipyard.
- Bertha was active in Our Savior's Lutheran church in Larimore. She taught Sunday school for 14 years, was a member of a ladies church circle, and spent many hours sewing quilts to be sent overseas to those less fortunate. She was a member of the West End Homemakers club for 50 years, served on the school board for West End School, and was a substitute teacher in the Larimore area, teaching at Kempton and Arvilla.
- She was a loving mother and wife, known for her many acts of kindness to others, especially the elderly. She always thought of others before herself.
- She is survived by her son David (Jeannie) of Larimore, ND; granddaughter Kelli Tvedt of Mayville, ND; her daughter Jennifer (Ronald Lester) of Windsor, CO; grandson Brian Wysocki (Nancy) and great grandchildren Grace and Adam of Meadow Grove, NE, and granddaughter Krista Jacobs (Major Vincent) and great grandchildren Eli and Molly of Tampa, FL and several nieces and nephews.
- She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and brothers: Nels, Ole Harold, and Ole Martin; and sisters: Anne and Gunhild.
- Visitation: 5 - 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, October 11, at Brown Funeral Home, Larimore and also 1 hour prior to the service on Friday, October 12, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
- Funeral Service: Friday, October 12, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Larimore, ND.
- Interment: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND.
- Arrangements: Brown Funeral Home, Larimore, ND.
