Dale S. Snyder, age 80, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with the Reverend Joel Higgins officiating. Don Seim will be the soloist accompanied by Karen Mee as organist. Interment will be in the De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, S.D. Military Honors will be conducted by the De Smet American Legion, De Smet, S.D.
- Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel and on Friday prior to services at the church.
- Pallbearers will be Scott Mors, Jon Mors, David Mors, John Rasmussen, Brett Rasmussen, and Jerry Tounsley.
- Dale Sanford Snyder was born on March 25, 1930 to Lewis O. and Lola L. (Munger) Snyder in De Smet, S.D. Dale grew up in De Smet where he attended school and graduated from De Smet High School in 1948. He attended Boys State as a teen. Dale then attended Huron College.
- Dale entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He married Mary Carpenter on November 19, 1950 in De Smet, SD. After Dale was discharged from the Army he returned to De Smet, and Dale and Mary owned De Smet Cleaners for 18 years. They moved to Castlewood, South Dakota and Dale worked as a Postal Clerk in De Smet and Watertown. Dale and Mary moved to Watertown in 1978. He retired from the Post Office in 1990.
- He was a member of the First United Methodist, Lions Club, Jaycees, and a 58-year member of the American Legion in De Smet and Watertown. While living in De Smet he was an active member of the community. He was also a 30-year member of the South Dakota National Guard, a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver, and a scout leader when his children were younger.
- He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Lindsey; his sister, Lenore; and his son, Ronald.
- Dale is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Linda (David) Mors of Clearwater, Minn., Joe (Lisa) Snyder of Denver, Colo, Edward (Rhonda) Snyder of Custer, S.D., and Laurie (John) Rasmussen of Brookings; his cousin, Jerry (Marilyn) Tounsley who was raised as a brother to Dale of Custer, S.D.; and seven grandchildren: Scott Mors, Jon Mors, Erica Snyder, Tessa Snyder, Mitchell Snyder, Jessica Rasmussen and Brett Rasmussen; and his great grandson, Nickolas Mors.
