- Bio: Betty Idelle (Smith) Bahnson was born the only child of Del and Edith (Yohn) Smith on November 16, 1929 at Gettysburg, SD. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed Alpine as well as cross country skiing in the Black Hills; water skiing and sailing at Lake Poinsett; ice skating, dancing; fishing in Canada; backpacking and golf. She enjoyed life.
- She was married for 58 years to her only husband, Boyd. With him she loved traveling, entertaining, and raising a herd of purebred fancy Black Angus cattle. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls for 75 years. She appreciated the arts. Betty received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Augustana College. She taught 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at Hawthorne Elementary School for 25 years. Betty believed in education. In 1990 Parkinsons disease sent her into early retirement.
- Until her death on Monday morning April 26, 2010, she continued to enjoy life in South Dakota with her husband, Boyd; her three sons.
