- Bio: Ralph "R.B." Sesker, age 90, passed away May 2, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.
- He was born on the Sesker family farm in Madrid, Iowa August 21, 1922, to Kathryn and Leonard Sesker. He learned many things on the family farm early on—practical joking, hard work, farming, and the side-benefits of helping your mother in the kitchen when you are the fifth child out of nine.
- After graduating from high school, R.B. attended the American Business Institute in Des Moines, Iowa. He then was accepted in to the Civil Service and served in the Adjutant General's office in Washington D.C. at the start of World War II.
- During war time, he volunteered for the United States Navy and was stationed in Washington, D.C. R.B. received both a medal of commendation and an oath of silence for his service during the war with the United States Naval Communication Intelligence Organization.
- One thing Ralph never kept quiet on, however, was the best mistake of his life when he asked Betty Ury's friend out for a date. The friend's name cannot be remembered, but the family is grateful. Betty and Ralph wed on June 5, 1943.
- After serving with the U.S. Naval Communication Intelligence Organization, he joined the Navy enlisted pilot's program. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in December 1945.
- The couple traveled to Ontario, OR in 1946 to visit Betty's family and ended up making their home in Ontario. He worked initially as an accountant at Nicholson Equipment Company, but his true life's work was in engineering, designing, refining, and building farm machinery. R.B. and his partner, G.A. Holstadt, together developed what would become the Rotary Corrugator machine and company designed to improve the irrigation of western crops.
- When he wasn't working, you could often find him with friends and family building a house, playing cards or pool, dancing at the Elks Lodge, hunting, growing apples and "building" pies, flying a plane, letting his granddaughters fancy-up his hair with barrettes and bows, or elbow-deep in flour making kringla, raisin-filled cookies, lefsa or sourdough hotcakes.
- R.B. was a proud and loving father and Poppy and is survived by his beloved wife; eldest son, Kim (Linda); daughter, Jody (Fred); son, Lee (Rhonda); brother, Hubert; sisters: Marlene (Clint) and Anita; sister-in-law, Inez Sesker; grandchildren: Brenda (Casey), Mary (Carl), Sarah (Jonathan), Cori (Josh), Matthew (Stephanie), and Frankie; stepgrandchildren: Mark (Kathleen), Lisa, and Chris (Mary); great-grandchildren: Heyden, Emmie and Madelyn; special niece, Andrea Warrington (Chelsey); and his entire Iowa family – anyone named Sesker!
- A memorial will be held Monday May 6th at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and a reception following at the home of Andrea and Chelsey Warrington.
