- Funeral services for Jean Hash, age 97, of Tilden, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2015, at Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden, Nebraska. Pastor Ralph Metschke and Father Michael Scheerger will officiate, with burial in Tilden City Cemetery.
- Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
- Jean died Thursday, December 3, 2015, at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
- Jean Margurette (Scheerger) Hash, daughter of Ernest and Martha Scheerger, was born May 18, 1918, at Wheatland, Wyoming. Jean graduated from Tilden High School in 1936. On November 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Bayne Hash at her parent’s home in Tilden.
- During World War II, Jean followed her husband to California where Bayne served in the United States Navy, attached to the Marine Corps, as a pharmacists mate. She was involved with packing parachutes during the war. They returned to Tilden to farm for three years. The couple then purchased Star Clothiers and Cleaners, and renamed it Bayne’s Clothing and added a saddle shop. Jean and Bayne continued to farm north of Tilden.
- Jean was active in American Legion Auxiliary and the Business Women. She was president of the Women’s Society, on the Faith United Methodist Church Board, Tilden Hospital Board, and was active on many committees. Jean sold her home in Tilden to move to Norfolk to be closer to her daughter. She was well known in Tilden because of her many activities. Everyone who knew Jean loved and respected her.
- Survivors include her son, Randy (Nancy) Hash of Centerville, Iowa and daughter Judy (Bill) Rood of Norfolk, Nebraska; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Peggy) Scheerger of California; seven nieces; and three nephews.
- She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Lois Heitmier and Theola Thornton.
- Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center or Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden.
