- Bio: The Roland RecordThursday, Aug. 10, 1967SERVICES HELD FOR IVER SAMPSONIver Sampson, son of Iver and Guro Sampson, as born on a farm southeast of Roland on April 5, 1882. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, and remained a lifelong member.On February 6, 1913, he was united in marriage to Elsie Braland of Randall. To this union were born one son and two daughters: Mervin of San Gabriel, Calif., Irene (Mrs. LaVerne Madison) of Nevada, and Charlotte (Mrs. Robert Lee) of Radcliffe.Iver Sampson passed away at Story County Hospital in Nevada on August 1, 1967, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 26 days. He had been in failing health for several years.Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife Elsie, three children, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, Ronald and Marilyn Sampson of San Gabriel, Calif., Shirley (Mrs. Richard Cotton) of Anchorage, Alaska, Janis (Mrs. Dale White) of Kelley, Frederick Madison of Omaha, Nebr., Connie (Mrs. Tom Ball) of Ames, Roger Madison of Nevada, Carla (Mrs. Richard Lawson), and Robert Lee Jr. of Radcliffe.Great-grandchildren are Teresa and Kimberley Cotton, Rusty, Lori and Brenda White, Stacy Madison, Shelley Hambly, Douglas Clawson, and Blair and Blane Lawson.Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Solomonson and Mrs. Sadie Olson of Storden, Minn., and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 1967, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland with Rev. H.M. Lybeck in charge. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Harris Twedt Jr., who sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art". They were accompanied at the organ by Linda Braathun.Casket bearers were Theodore Sampson, Clarence Sampson, Arnold Sampson, Glen Sampson, Amos Olson and Russell McKean.Interment was in the Roland Cemetery.Among those attending services from out of town were Mrs. Sadie Olson, Storden, Minn.; Mrs. Melvin Anderson, Cottonwood, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Amos Olson and family, Susan Hallum of Herok Lake, Minn.; Ida Meade, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Erickson of Windom, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Braland, Mrs. Sigurd Twedt, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Burt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Russell McKean, Mrs. Roy Henderson of Armstrong; Mrs. S.B. Knutson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Knutson, Mrs. Ann Beardsley of Des Moines; Mrs. Russell Sinclair, Oelwein; and Marion Olson and Creighton of Windom, Minn.
